Given the ongoing impact and uncertainty of COVID, we have made the difficult decision to not recruit 40 new Grade 6 students for a 2021 summer start. Our aim is to have a big impact on a few rather than a little impact on many and unfortunately, the pandemic has impacted our ability to provide the full Trails experience. That said, we will continue to explore how we may recruit at a later date and still offer Trails to this missed intake year when the COVID story is clearer.

Through COVID, we have employed several strategies to stay connected with our participants. These include Virtual Trails, phone calls, care packages, summer Day Camps using Morningside Park and Old Mill Station, and most recently running Saturday Day Camp at Trails site. Hopefully the situation continues to improve so we can return to our traditional format.

Thank you for your interest in Trails. If you would like to be contacted when we have decided to proceed with intake please continue to submit an application.

Our unique approach focuses on an adolescent’s long-term development. Our youth are referred to us by the teachers, guidance counselors and principals from our feeder schools, all in high priority neighborhoods in Toronto.

  • Lawrence Heights Middle School
  • Pierre Laporte Middle School
  • Portage Trail Community School
  • Taylor Creek Public School (formerly Warden Avenue Public School)
  • Beverley Heights Middle School
  • Military Trail Public School

Our selected schools are in the bottom 15% of Toronto District School Board’s Learning Opportunities Index (LOI). The LOI ranks each school based on the measures of external challenges affecting student success which includes median income, percentage of families receiving social assistance, adults with low education and single-parent families.

For more information please contact Brandon McKinley, our Youth Development Director.

Both the Application Form and Referral Form must be filled out in order to nominate a participant.
